Founded in 1996 by Dan Donovan, Ottawa Life Magazine has grown into the capital’s go-to destination for stories that shape the city—from politics and news to theatre, sports, culture and music. Travel has always been part of our DNA, and we’ve long been committed to making it feel accessible for our fellow Ottawans.
In each of the 41 countries we’ve visited, we discovered something essential: there are three types of explorers—travellers, tourists, and trekkers. Some crave adventure, others seek active recreation, and many want to immerse themselves in local culture and unwind.
This inspired the launch of Travel, Trek & Tour. Every story on our site comes from real trips from open-minded travellers. We showcase the best itineraries, experiences, and discoveries in each destination—whether you’re there to travel, trek, or tour.

Ottawa Life Magazine is the longest-running and most popular (est.1996) general interest and lifestyles magazine in Canada’s National Capital Region. Ottawa Life Magazine was sold on newsstands and was carried as an insert in The Globe & Mail to subscribers in the National Capital, Eastern Ontario and West Quebec Region for 25 years. Now, an online platform, Ottawa Life Magazine receives over 395,000 page views and 85,500 unique visitors per month and has a large social media following on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
