One of my fondest childhood memories is camping trips in the Colorado Rockies while listening to John Denver and Simon and Garfunkel. Fifteen years later, the lyrics of “Rocky Mountain High” echoed through my mind as I spent a week exploring the treasure troves of Denver, the mountains and little towns along the way.

Colorado is the land where breathtaking mountain landscapes meet lively urban scenes. Colorado has a tune for everyone, and its cultural and historic richness captivated and amazed us at every step of our journey.

Colorado, a place like no other in North America, has become a magnet for a new generation of adventurers and city dwellers seeking a unique lifestyle. During my week in the “Centennial State,” I truly grasped the irresistible allure of this stunning destination, celebrated for its majestic mountains.

Only 66 miles from Denver, Winter Park is a family-oriented hill that packs a lot of punch. The resort offers seven “territories” and three peaks spread over 1,247 hectares of skiable terrain. There is something here for everyone.

There’s just too much to appreciate in Colorado. The ever-present mountains, the sweeping plains between peaks, the all-season sun, the art and beer. But for one spring week, I had a chance to pack my bags and see the centennial state with fresh eyes, and man did I celebrate.   

With 26 mountain resorts, Colorado is one incredible ski destination. There are so many hills there is almost one for every letter of the alphabet. The best name goes to Purgatory but if that does not convey a comfy cozy feeling for your next family trip, head to Steamboat.

Colorado is the destination for rafting, rock climbing, skydiving, paragliding, and even surfing. If the Rockies themselves don’t humble you, the experience will.
