Naples, Florida: Where Luxury, Nature, and Culture Converge
Sun-soaked beaches, world-class dining, mangrove adventures, and the vibrant arts scene make Naples a top Florida destination for Canadians and international travellers alike.
The Capri Inn is a tucked-away treasure: serene, stylish, and perfectly located in the heart of Old Naples. The rooms are spacious, immaculate, and thoughtfully refreshed, making it a wonderful retreat after a day of exploring the city. Formerly the Trianon Old Naples, the property has been reimagined as part of the impressive Opal Collection, bringing a fresh coastal-chic sensibility to one of Naples’ most walkable neighbourhoods.
This boutique gem stands out not only for its design but also for its exceptional staff, who provide a warm and personal touch to every guest interaction. Breezy textures and timeless Old Naples charm flow through the interiors, creating an inviting atmosphere just steps from galleries, cafés, and the marina. Guests can relax by the pool, enjoy a light breakfast of locally made pastries, or take advantage of the complimentary shuttle to the beach or Fifth Avenue.
The Capri Inn is a stylish oasis in the centre of Naples.
The lobby’s beautifully appointed sitting room adds to the hotel’s intimate appeal. On the night I arrived, a jazz pianist played softly in the corner—an unexpected and delightful touch that elevated the already welcoming vibe.
Naples Princess Sunset Dinner Cruise
Few experiences capture the allure of Naples like the Naples Princess sunset dinner cruise. Guests board at the marina before setting out for the calm waters of Naples Bay and entering the Gulf, timed perfectly for sunset when the sky erupts in shades of gold and coral.
Dinner aboard the Naples Princess began with an entre of sumptuous local shrimp, followed by a main course of prime rib.
Guests have the option of pairing this two-and-a-half-hour cruise with upscale dining while enjoying panoramic views of waterfront estates, wildlife, and the shoreline. The elegant atmosphere, attentive staff, and curated menu make this an ideal way to experience Naples from the water, whether for a romantic evening or a family adventure.
Fifth Avenue South – The Heart of Naples’ Dining and Arts Scene
Palm-lined and effortlessly chic, Fifth Avenue South is the beating heart of Naples’ social and cultural life. Designer boutiques, art galleries, and sidewalk cafés spill onto the street, creating a lively atmosphere that stretches from morning espresso to late-night cocktails.
After a sunset cruise, it’s the perfect place to wander, people-watch, and soak in Naples’ signature blend of luxury and laid-back charm. There are restaurants to suit every taste, from casual cafés to refined dining experiences.
Osteria Tulia – Authentic Italian Flavours on Fifth Avenue South
Chef Vincenzo Betulia has made Osteria Tulia a Naples favourite with rustic Italian dishes inspired by his Sicilian roots. The restaurant’s warm, farmhouse-style interior and refined menu make it a standout for lunch or dinner. Handmade pastas, wood-fired specialties, and an exceptional wine list and craft cocktails have earned it a loyal following among both locals and visitors.
Rising Tide Explorers – Kayak Tours Through Mangrove Tunnels and Mudflats
For those craving adventure—or a recreational outing that is part local lore, part biology lesson, and a whole lot of fun—Rising Tide Explorers offers one of Southwest Florida’s most immersive eco-experiences. Led by local biologists, the kayak tour winds through mangrove tunnels, oyster reefs, and quiet bays teeming with wildlife. Dolphins, wading birds, and even the occasional manatee make appearances as guides share insights into the region’s delicate estuary ecosystem.
Our early morning paddle with Rising Tide Explorers included an up close look at sea stars and a variety of mollusks.
This was one of the highlights of our trip to Florida. Our guide was exceptionally knowledgeable, engaging, and a paddling encyclopedia of stories and insights as we moved through the mangroves. It’s remarkable that just minutes from urban Naples, you can feel completely immersed in nature. A must-do for any nature lover visiting Southwest Florida.
Artis Naples & Baker Museum – Southwest Florida’s Cultural Crown Jewel
Artis Naples is the cultural heart of the area, anchored by the Naples Philharmonic and the Baker Museum. Ottawa arts enthusiasts will recognize the name Alexander Shelley, who is in his final season with the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. Shelley is the Artistic and Music Director of Artis, providing leadership for the Naples Philharmonic and overseeing the entire multidisciplinary arts organisation.
The Baker Museum itself is stunning, with modern, elegant architecture, thoughtfully curated galleries, and a world-class collection. Highlights include the Baker’s celebrated Chihuly glass installations and a broad array of modern and contemporary American and European art.

What makes the Baker Museum exceptional is its deep connection to the Naples community. Through educational programs, community partnerships, and rotating exhibitions, the museum is a hub for both cultural engagement and public learning.
During our visit, the museum was hosting a retrospective of the Russian-born 19th-century portrait artist Tamara de Lempicka (1894-1980), a leading figure of the Art Deco movement, and we caught the final days of Entangled in the Everglades, a wonderful nine-artist look at the impact of humans on Florida’s unique Everglades ecosystem.

In 2026, visitors can look forward to exhibitions such Linling Lu: Fugue in 3 Voices, featuring the circular paintings inspired by composers who have been featured in the Naples Philharmonic’s Masterworks series, and ongoing exhibitions like the Chihuly contemporary glass installations.
A private tour provides insight not only into the artworks but also into the museum’s role in nurturing arts and culture in Naples and across the U.S. Few American museums combine collection quality, community engagement, and cultural relevance so effectively.
